Dr. N. Y. Tasgaonkar Institute of Medical Science (NYTIMS) is a modern medical college and teaching hospital at Karjat in Raigad district, Maharashtra, affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik and recognized by the National Medical Commission, New Delhi. NYTIMS offers a 100-seat MBBS programme together with ten postgraduate MD/MS specialties and is supported by the 400-bed Raigad Hospital & Research Centre on the same campus. Established under the Saraswati Education Society and part of the Doctor N. Y. Tasgaonkar Group of Institutes, the college pairs rigorous medical education with compassionate, community-focused healthcare for the Mumbai-Pune region.
Dr. N. Y. Tasgaonkar Institute of Medical Science (NYTIMS) is a contemporary medical institution located in the scenic Karjat taluka of Raigad district, Maharashtra, opposite Bhivpuri Road railway station. Founded by the visionary radiologist Dr. Nandkumar Yadavrao Tasgaonkar and operated under the Saraswati Education Society, the college received its first Letter of Permission from the National Medical Commission and first-time affiliation from the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences for the 2021-22 academic year, welcoming its inaugural MBBS batch that same year.
The institute is built around a clear purpose: to cultivate compassionate, skilled healthcare professionals through rigorous education, innovative research, and meaningful community engagement. Its undergraduate Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme admits 100 students per batch and spans five and a half years, comprising four and a half years of academic instruction followed by a mandatory one-year rotating internship. Teaching is organised across the classic three-tier medical-college structure of pre-clinical, para-clinical, and clinical departments.
Beyond the undergraduate course, NYTIMS offers postgraduate MD and MS programmes across ten clinical specialties, deepening the institute's role as a regional centre for advanced medical training. Each department is led by an experienced Head of Department and supported by domain-expert faculty who balance classroom instruction, bedside teaching, and active research. Faculty members regularly publish in peer-reviewed national and international journals, reinforcing the institute's commitment to evidence-based medicine.
At the heart of clinical training is the Raigad Hospital & Research Centre, the attached 400-bed teaching hospital that serves patients within a 40-kilometre radius across the Mumbai-Pune corridor. With six major operation theatres, round-the-clock emergency and obstetric services, advanced radiology and pathology laboratories, and an in-house pharmacy, the hospital provides students with abundant clinical material and real-world exposure under the guidance of senior clinicians.
The institute is part of a larger educational ecosystem: the Saraswati Education Society, founded on 10 October 2003, operates ten institutions on its Bhivpuri Road campus near Karjat, spanning engineering, management, pharmacy, and medical studies. This integrated campus environment gives medical students access to a vibrant, multidisciplinary learning community and shared infrastructure.
NYTIMS articulates its mission as bridging theoretical knowledge and real-world medical practice while emphasising ethical values and empathetic patient care. The college aspires to evolve into a globally recognised centre of excellence in medical education, research, and healthcare delivery, and its leadership has set a long-term goal of growing the teaching hospital into one of the finest multispecialty institutions in India.
Admissions to the MBBS programme are conducted strictly in accordance with the guidelines of the Maharashtra CET Cell, Mumbai and the Admission Regulating Authority, with NEET-UG as the qualifying examination. Postgraduate admissions follow MUHS counselling and Maharashtra CET Cell norms, requiring a qualifying NEET-PG score, a recognised MBBS degree, completed internship, and valid medical council registration.
